THE ADVENTURES OF LA’VENDER FREDDY: THE SUNSCREEN CONSPIRACY
During the year of 2020, interdisciplinary conceptual sound artist, Ricardo iamuuri Robinson set out to curate a monumental artistic project using the Instagram social media platform. For 365 days, Robinson, by way of their digital alter ego character, La’Vender Freddy posted daily media findings inspired by and in response to American soul singer, songwriter, and producer Marvin Gaye's eleventh studio album "What's Going On." This eccentric archive is called, The Sunscreen Conspiracy” This project exceeded expectations and became a invaluable resource. The Sunscreen Conspiracy Collective is another chapter to this great work. We would like this collective to carry on the similar task of expanding the current archive and inviting a new range of perspectives and insights. The foundation has already been laid. The invitations have been sent. With your support this arts research project will move forward with a little more ease and a lot more gratitude.
The Sunscreen Conspiracy Collective is inspired by a media archive project bearing the same name. The collective will further the work of creating an inclusive cultural media archive which values the multitude of voices addressing What’s Going On, in the past and present and future.
La’Vender Freddy is a prophylactic afro-electronic dance rock, creative selfie prop-art, media time traveling gumshoe. They are known for their social media soundtracks, sonic graphic novels and fantastic archival photobombs. Fusing past fiction with present friction, to reconsider all manufactured factions and malleable facts. La’Vender is a campaign to FREE QUENCY!
The Adventures Of La’Vender Freddy & The Sunscreen Conspiracy: In An Acoustic World [Chapter One] is the debut album! This work features 14 tracks (plus a bonus instrumental) of the Prophylactic Afro-Electronic Dance Rock sound. This sound is: a knocking, a time-less signature, a drive toward some great personal release, a movement on a mobile dance floor, a reacquaintance with rebel joy, a black signal breaking through a white noise. This sound is La’Vender’s love!
The Adventures of La’Vender Freddy & The Sunscreen Conspiracy: In An Acoustic World [Chapter One], is my latest conceptual sound art project. This artwork is a creative motion to re-examine a historical narrative.“WHAT'S GOING ON?” The goal will be to respond the question/statement. The project/case will be on the table for an entire year. The art will be the evidence and the evidence will be an artistic presentation of La'Vender's discoveries. This album is Exhibit A.
La’Vender Freddy is a media time-traveling, gumshoe, hired by a struggling sound artist to answer the American singer/ songwriter, Marvin Gaye’s query/statement, “WHAT'S GOING ON?” La’Vender Freddy is a selfie-made project. This project explores manufactured personas, Society Of The Spectacle and the representations of the real. La’Vender Freddy is: a sound, a reflection, a username, an avatar, a profile pic, a meme and most significantly, protective armor during this age of media madness.
