THE ADVENTURES OF LA’VENDER FREDDY: FREE THE MACHINE
Free The Machine is the next installment of Social Media Art from interdisciplinary conceptual sound artist Ricardo iamuuri Robinson. Through their virtual alter ego, (La’Vender Freddy), Robinson continues to compose music, sound art and performance art in conversation with a collection of past, and contemporary media clips. La’Vender Freddy’s, “Free The Machine” is the follow-up to The Adventures Of La’Vender Freddy & The Sunscreen Conspiracy. The first project featured a myriad of artwork ranging from an eclectic media archive addressing “What’s Going On,” to a full length album introducing the popular pandemic anthem, There Are Black People In The Future. It has been 3 years since La’Vender Freddy has offered a word to the current music scene. Much has happened in this time, for better or for worse. “Here comes a project that will bring me back home,” states La’Vender. Free The Machine is a collection of 12 songs that will be released intuitively. The music takes on a new pulse. This sound maintains tension, creation and destruction, pumping a vital power into the listener. It is a statement of liberation in its purest form.
To see a world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour.
-William Blake
Social Media Art refers to the artistic creation and production of all genres and forms of expression that utilize electronic media, (film and technology, analog and digital; old and new) as a medium for interaction. Social Media Art creates a way to engage or influence people to share and exchange information and ideas within virtual communities and networks. -Ricardo iamuuri Robinson
La'Vender Freddy has turned a corner and amplified their efforts, following their first digital music release, “The Sunscreen Conspiracy,” in 2020. The mobile phone beat maker and social media performance artist is now concentrating on the second phase of a larger work of art. Free The Machine is the title of their 12-track collection.
From the outset, the audience is greeted by a melodic call to action, "Reset the Sun.” There are no questions in this room. All of the featured voices possess a sacred knowledge. "Blackbody, White Noise" uses beating drums and blaring horns to gather a new tribe of soulful liberators. “Mama Sol Power & The Sandman,” is the most esoteric track featured in this collection. La'Vender Freddy's intentional groove makes it easy for the listener to concentrate on decoding the content.
One can still hear the optimism and poetic sense of humor of Freddy throughout this album. From falling in love with robots to choosing wit over rulership. The title song, "Free The Machine", hits through the screen and introduces listeners to a mixture of disco-soul-punk. This collection of music confronts the machinery that helped to produce it and preserves the humanity that infused it.
